Creta
Ever since it was first launched in 2015, the Hyundai Creta has been upgraded slightly over time, ensuring that it stays on top of the sales charts
Gone is the all-pleasing styling of the older model for a new bold and radical design
In its second-generation now, the Creta is also marginally bigger than its predecessor in terms of the overall dimensions
The older Creta was known for its elegant and timeless design, the newer model leaps forward with a daring approach.
The biggest takeaway for the new Creta is the split-lighting setup, with slit-like LED DRLs, placed on the front and a full-LED headlamp embedded within
The fog lamps and cornering lamps are placed lower down
In profile, the only giveaway for the new Creta is the new 17-inch alloy wheels.
The Hyundai Creta is available in five variants -- E, EX, S, SX, and SX(O)
The base E model is only available with the diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox
The EX model can be had with either of the 1.5-litre engines with the manual transmission.
The same goes for the S model which gets more features. SX and SX(O) models are available with all three engines and each of their auto ‘box options in addition to a manual transmission.
The steering wheel is all-new, which is not only a flat-bottom unit but also a four-spoke wheel.
The driver sits facing an all-new instrument cluster, replete with analogue dials for the tachometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature, and an extremely informative 7.0-inch coloured MID display.
The 10.25-inch infotainment display is sleek, while the BOSE 8-speaker sound system is amongst the best sounding in the segment.
The ventilated seats are a nice inclusion for our weather conditions.
Replacing the older 1.6-litre units are two new 1.5-litre engines, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol (113bhp and 144Nm), and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel (113bhp and 250Nm).
While a 6-speed manual is a standard fit for both, the petrol gets an option of a CVT automatic while the diesel gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic as an option.
Good news for the enthusiasts too, as the Hyundai Creta also gets the 1.4-litre T-GDI engine, which is good for 138bhp and 242Nm of torque
This one, however, skips the manual and only comes mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox
