The Hyundai Verna competes in a segment that is full of very worthy competitors with the Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz

Apart from the usual tweaks inside and out, the 2020 Verna gets a new face, and is now a ‘connected car’.

Judged against the old Verna, the new model comes across as a far superior product

The new dual-tone 16-inch wheels lend the Hyundai Verna good road presence and the LED tail lamps are the standout items on the rear end of the car

Moreover, the talking point for the 2020 Verna is the new face, replete with a sizeable Cascading grille, which is flanked by a pair of new full-LED headlamps

The dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels look far more upmarket and snazzier than the ones they replace

On top of that, the Turbo variant of the Verna gets a gloss-black finished grille, front parking sensors, and a slightly revamped rear bumper with twin tip muffler

Other features include a digital instrument cluster, rear disc brakes, wireless phone charging, Hyundai BlueLink infotainment system, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and ventilated seats

Hyundai has equipped the Verna with six airbags, ABS, EBD, rear parking sensors, and reversing camera.

There isn’t much to complain about really, but if there’s an area where the Verna underwhelms, it’s the rear-seat experience

The 2020 Verna comes with two petrol and a diesel engine

The first of the two petrol engines is the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder unit, which is borrowed from the 2020 Creta,it produces 113bhp and 144Nm of torque

It comes mated to a 6-speed manual as a standard fit, while a CVT automatic is available as an option

Next is the 1.0-litre T-GDI three-cylinder petrol borrowed from the Venue, which is good for 118bhp and 172Nm of torque

It only comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

As for the diesel, it’s also the 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that does its duty under the hood of the 2020 Creta.

Here, too, the engine makes 113bhp and 250Nm of torque,it comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
