Maruti Suzuki's Alto has been India's favourite entry-level hatchback, right since the year 2000.

Back then, it even overtook the 800 in terms of sales, making it India's largest-selling car.

The Alto now comes with a BS-VI compliant petrol engine, and an enhanced body shell so as to comply with the crash test norms of the modern era.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto new model continues to deliver high on convenience,with a reworked cabin,a mildly restyled front-end,packs in more safety features and comes with an even smaller carbon footprint.

Up-front, the petal-shaped headlamps look attractive; so, does the all-black radiator grille.

The front bumper has been redesigned and sports a big air dam with a honeycomb-like plastic mesh.

The side profile consists of mildly flared wheel arches and a strong belt line.

Inside the cabin, the biggest change is the black-and-beige dashboard; it's been carried over from the Alto K10.

The small steering feels nice to hold, and the front seats provide good comfort and support.

There's also sufficient legroom and headroom at the front.

Boot space, at 177 litres, is ample for small families and trips to the airport, provided there aren't too many bags.

Interior highlights include a 7-inch Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Safety features on offer are reverse parking sensors, driver, front co-passenger airbags, speed alert system, seatbelt reminder for both front occupants, as well as ABS and EBD.

The Alto-800 comes in four variants: the STD, LXI, VXI and VXI+.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto is powered by a 796cc, F8D petrol engine that produces 48bhp and 69Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Maruti Alto 800 has an ARAI-rated fuel mileage of 25 kmpl

Even in the real world conditions, one can easily extract up to 21 kmpl on the highway and 17 kmpl in the city.
