The new Swift comes with both petrol as well as a diesel option

But with the announcement of Suzuki exiting the diesel engine market in 2020, there is a lot of skepticism around buying a diesel variant.

Nonetheless, both the engines come with excellent driveability and you cannot go wrong with either.

The front is dominated by a  large, hexagonal grille with black horizontal slats which gives it quite a sharp look.

The new Swift also gets the signature sweptback headlamps like the old one.

But this time around, they are more angular and with a sharper design.

The U-shaped LED DRLs give it a futuristic look but are available only on the top-end Z+ trim.

From the rear the new Swift might remind you of the A-star with is squarish taillights and a floating roof.

The new Swift is 10 mm shorter in length compared to the older car.

However, its width has been increased by 40 mm and at 2,450 mm, the wheelbase has been increased by 20 mm.

The sporty nature of the Swift on the outside continues on the inside.

It gets an all-black treatment which is easy to maintain and looks quite sporty.

The dashboard design is quite neutral and you won’t find many people hating it.

In the middle of the dashboard sits a 7-inch tablet-like touchscreen that comes with Suzuki’s SmartPlay interface.

The plastic quality is just about average and the buttons and knobs feel durable.

The front seats provide a good amount of under-thigh support and bolstering which helps you keep in place while taking a sharp turn.

The cushioning is on the softer side which might not be a very good thing for undertaking very long journeys but is not a deal-breaker.

The infotainment system is one of the most important parts of the in-car experience.

To enhance that experience, the Swift comes with Suzuki’s Smartplay infotainment system

It comes with a simple interface which is also apple car play and android auto compatible.

It comes with 4 speakers which perform admirably and are tuned towards bass-heavy audiophiles.

The boot space is one of the most important aspects of a car, especially for family buyers

The Swift does not disappoint in this department as it comes with a boot space worth a weekend trip luggage

Suzuki’s new Swift is offered in a total of 7 different variants.

The petrol engine comes with 4 variants namely LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+.

The diesel, on the other hand, gets only 3 variants namely, VDI, ZDI, and ZDI+.

The base variant, LXI is available only with a petrol engine and not available with the diesel engine.

Hence, the base LXI variant now offers ABS with EBD, dual front airbags and rear parking sensors.

It is powered by a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol mill that produces 91PS and 118Nm with mild hybrid and hybrid options as well.

The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual, CVT and AMT geaboxes, with front wheel drive and all-wheel drivetrain options

Expect the India spec Swift facelift to get the same 1.2-litre petrol mill from the recently launched Dzire facelift.

With the future safety crash tests and norms kicking in soon, every manufacturer seems to have updated their cars already

The new Swift gets ABS with EBD and dual front airbags as standard which makes it a much safer car to drive now.

Maruti also claims that its new Heartect platform is safer due to the use of high tensile steel which provides effective shock absorption.
